And if we add legal language to the equation\, sometimes we may feel at a loss for words. \nThis webinar explores the linguistic resources and techniques to translate legal terminology in subtitling projects\, taking into account accuracy\, register\, and time and space constraints\, as well as providing research tools to optimize our time and be more productive. We’ll delve into the notion of equivalence in legal translation and the abundance of false friends that may spoil the viewer’s experience. The examples provided will be taken from English into Spanish audiovisual material. \nYou will learn how to:\n\nEnhance accuracy in legal translations.\nDevelop condensing and adaptation skills.\nIdentify reliable sources for researching legal terminology.\n\nAbout the Presenter\nDaniela Costa is an English<>Spanish certified translator and attorney at law who graduated from the University of Buenos Aires\, Argentina. She has a master’s degree in audiovisual translation from the University of Cadiz (Spain). She is a member of ATA and the Buenos Aires Sworn Translators Association. She has been working as a freelance subtitle translator for leading localization companies for over 20 years\, and her works can be seen in theaters and major streaming platforms. He has degrees in law\, humanities\, and social sciences\, along with a degree in translation. His diverse experience includes participating in criminal investigations and prosecutions and serving as in-house counsel and legal advisor in law firms. His portfolio includes translation and interpreting work for academia\, law firms\, and private clients. Additionally\, he has contributed to the profession by serving on ATA’s Professional Development Committee and ATA’s Law Division Leadership Council. \nBen Karl\, MBA\, CT is an ATA-certified French into English translator specializing in corporate and marketing communications and user experience from French and Mandarin into English. He serves as ATA director\, chair of ATA’s Advocacy Committee\, and is a member of ATA’s Membership Committee and The ATA Chronicle Editorial Advisory Board. He is also chair of the International Federation of Translators’ (FIT) Translatio Standing Committee and edits ? Propos\, the blog of ATA’s French Language Division. He has a bachelor’s degree in translation and East Asian studies from McGill University\, a certificate of advanced Chinese proficiency from Beijing Language and Culture University\, and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Nevada\, Reno.
