First of all, congratulations! Thank you so much for sharing your story -it goes on to prove the value of “dealing” your (business) cards like a croupier :), as our dear colleague, , would put it. I have had similar results, especially following the ATA Conference, and while casually attending networking events locally, without any specific intention. Yes, it might take time, but the rewards are sometimes well-worth it. Keep us posted!

Yesterday I got an email from a local attorney asking me to translate a document. I told her that I always have a telephone conversation with a client before I talk about rates. I like my clients to know my ASTM based process so they can understand how we can work as a team and all that.

We talked today, and she told me where she got my card: There was a Hispanic Festival in Hillsboro, and I managed to show up for the last hour or two. I really thought this wasn’t terribly useful.

Anyway, that was probably in April or May. 6 months or so ago. I have been waiting to break into the network of attorneys working with Hispanic clients in Hillsboro, since there is a very large Hispanic population. This may just be the way it works out for me. The human touch is what starts my best connections.

It’s a small job, but I expect this to be the start of something good.
